Dear colleagues, we are delighted to present the electronic edition of the Proceedings of the 1st International Online Education Conference on the topic “From the 20th to the 21st century in 15 days: The abrupt transition of our educational reality to digital environments. Attitudes – Perceptions – Scenarios – Prospects – Proposals.”
The Conference was organized exclusively online on July 3, 4 & 5, 2020, by the “Media Pedagogy” research team of the “Psychology, Pedagogical Research and Media in Education” of the Department of Primary Education of the University of the Aegean, in collaboration with the Postgraduate Program “Educational Sciences – Education with the Use of New Technologies” of the Department of Primary Education of the University of the Aegean and the Inter-institutional Postgraduate Program “Educational Design of Online (Online) Education” of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of the Aegean.
The idea for the conference arose from the team members’ concern about how the educational community experienced the unexpected health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, which led to the suspension of school operations in our country and the promotion of home learning. The aim of the conference was to record, through meaningful and scientifically structured dialogue, the attitudes, perceptions, concerns, and practices of the educational community regarding the new learning environment that emerged under the conditions of the pandemic, while its agenda focused on the following thematic areas:
- Research, practices, and teaching approaches with the new data.
- Problems in implementing distance learning.
- Organizational and administrative issues.
- Distance learning support groups.
- International practices in distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Teacher training and distance learning.
- Innovative digital tools for distance learning.
- Lifelong learning and vocational education and training.

We were delighted to see that both the scientific and educational communities responded enthusiastically to the invitation to participate in the Conference, which featured three keynote speeches by distinguished speakers from the international academic community, 8 presentations by researchers from other European countries, 14 presentations by faculty members from Greece, and 73 presentations by the scientific and educational community. In addition, 14 workshops were held to promote innovative teaching activities, methods, and practices, and 12 posters were displayed. In the end, about 4,300 people attended the conference. In the Proceedings Volume that follows, we’ve put together 70 papers that successfully passed the review process by the members of the Conference Scientific Committee. The structure of the proceedings follows the thematic axes of the Conference.
As the scientific director of the Conference, I would like to warmly thank the members of the Scientific Committee for their contribution to ensuring scientific dialogue and the successful publication of the proceedings. We hope that this volume of proceedings will contribute to understanding the abrupt transition experienced by the educational community in March 2020 and will serve as a catalyst for the continuation of academic dialogue between members of the scientific and educational communities.
